THE ANNUAL EYEBALL
(General Information)
Each year the Club holds an annual get-together known as the "Eyeball." The general location of this event rotates around the country to give all members a chance of attending without the same ones always having to travel a great distance. Despite this, there are those adventuresome souls who will head out cross country toward the Eyeball a week early and offer contacts on our nets from many states along the way.
The Eyeball is usually held starting on the last Friday in July or the first Friday in August and ending on Sunday morning, although Eyeball 2010 was held June 10th–12th. Some attendees will arrive a day or even several days before to have additional time to renew old acquaintences and to help with set-up.
A few of our past Eyeball locations are… Eyeball 2005, hosted by Bill Martin (WM4SG), was held at Red Top Mountain State Park, a beautiful semi-rural setting a bit north of Atlanta, GA. Eyeball 2006, hosted by Jay Wieland (N0PUI), was held in Le Sueur, MN, of "Jolly Green Giant" fame. Eyeball 2007, hosted by Jim Richardson (N5OHL), was held in historic Guthrie, the picturesque former capital of Oklahoma. Eyeball 2008, hosted by Bill Dobson (N3WD), was held in Hanover, PA, near historic Gettysburg and Amish Country. Eyeball 2009, hosted by Loren Hunt (AD6ZJ), was held on the 55-acre grounds of the Vista Antique Gas and Steam Museum in Vista, CA. And Eyeball 2010, hosted by Frank Krize (K5SVC) and his wife Joy (KD5JAQ), was held in Natchez, MS and Vidalia, LA.
Not long after each Annual Eyeball, potential hosts of the next year's Eyeball make proposals to the Board of Directors, which selects a location for next year's Eyeball from among the proposals submitted. Our Eyeball Site Requirements document contains the information needed to submit a proposal to host the Annual Eyeball.
