CONTEST DETAILS

Empty card File

There are many on our nets working for awards.  Some may be just getting started and won't have very many QSL cards collected from our nets.

Attic Full of Card Boxes

On the other hand, several "old timers" in The 3905 CCN no longer file for awards, although still making contacts and collecting QSL cards.

Modest Card File with Cards

And there are a lot of folks somewhere in between.

Well, it's time to drag out those boxes of cards and start filing for awards.  And for the newer folks, it's time to start making more contacts and looking into what awards you can earn.

RULES

The "What's in the Box" Contest will run 01‑Sep‑2010 and the object of it is to file and have approved and entered on-line as many awards as possible by midnight 28‑Feb‑2011 Central Standard Time.  Those earning awards will be automatically entered in the contest once for each approved award (including endorsements) entered on-line and dated within this time frame.  Dates are applied by the server, which is on Central Time, at the time the award is entered by your Area Awards Manager.  The awards listings on the WB5FDP Website will be considered the official source for the number of awards earned during the contest period.  It will take a few days for all entries to appear on this site following the end of the contest.  Any ties will be shared pro rata among the respective parties.

PART ONE

The first part of the contest will be based upon the total number of awards approved.  The winners will be the top five earning the most awards during the contest period.  The prize for these winners will be a number of 1‑ounce SASEs in their QSL Bureau of choice.  First place will receive 100 SASEs, second place 50 SASEs and third through fifth places will each receive 25 SASEs.  NN5G will be responsible for seeing that the winners receive their SASEs.

PART TWO

Carrot

Another phase of the contest was suggested by KB3PU and is being funded by KC2PUF.  This phase will also apply to each and every award earned during the contest.  Winners of PART TWO will be determined by separating the awards earned into "hats," with winners being drawn from each hat.  All Progressive Awards in one hat, with all other awards going into hats broken down by basic award name.  For example, all Clint Wise awards in one hat, all WAS awards (all versions) in another hat, all National Parks awards in yet another hat, etc.  At the end of the contest one winner will be drawn from each "hat."  This approach allows EVERYONE earning ANY award, even just one award, a chance to be a winner.  The more different awards you earn, the more "hats" you will be entered in and the better your chances of winning.  Also, the fewer entries in addition to your own in a given award category (hat), the better your odds of winning in that category are, so don't forget the "rarer" awards.  Winners of PART TWO will each receive 10 SASEs in the buro of their choice.

Good Luck & Good Award Chasing!

This contest was funded by donations given specifically for this purpose, not from the club treasury.
