CCLOGGER - POSTING CHECK-IN LISTS

In early Nov 2011, without prior warning, Yahoo! added a long-needed security measure to prevent spammers and other malicious types from spoofing email addresses.  The result of this change is that CCLogger, or all other "external email clients" are unable to post email to any Yahoo! Groups reflector unless the address in that email matches the domain from which it is sent.  In simple terms, that means you must send mail to the reflectors thru your own "home" Internet Service Provider (ISP) using your "home" email address.  For example, if you're a Comcast customer, you must send the check-in lists thru your Comcast account using your Comcast email address as the "From" address.

For those having problems posting check-in lists to the 3905checkins reflector using CCLogger, the following instructions should help resolve issues with inability to post lists arising from this change.  These instructions should also be helpful to those setting up to post check-in lists for the first time.

If your view of Yahoo! is different than described below, look around for a similar item.  A full Yahoo! tutorial is beyond the scope of this page.

  1. Make the necessary changes to your Yahoo! account as follows:
    1. Click on Yahoo! Login and Sign In to your Yahoo! account.
    2. After signing in, look for where it says "Hi X" (where X is the name you choose to be known by on Yahoo!) and hover over or click this area.
    3. Click the selection that appears labeled "Account Info."  Re-enter your password if asked to do so.
    4. On the screen that appears, click "Choose how Yahoo! contacts you."  You will see one or more email addresses followed by "Add Another."
    5. Click "Add Another" and add your "home" (ISP) email address.
    6. Triple-check the spelling of this address, then click "Save."  If that address is already there, triple check the spelling, correct any errors and save.  You should NOT have to make this your primary email address.
    7. Sign out.
  2. Give any changes you made a while to take effect while you set up CCLogger per the following instructions.  These instructions refer to the image below.
    1. In CCLogger, open the dialog box shown below by clicking on the CCLogger option to send an email list to the reflector.
    2. For "Server Name:" enter the name of your ISP's SMTP server.
    3. For "User ID:" enter the user id you use with your email account with your ISP.
    4. For "Password:" enter the password for your email account at your ISP.
    5. For "SMTP Auth" leave as it was when things worked, probably checked.
    6. For "Port:" clear the box.
    7. For "Send To Address:" enter "3905checkins@yahoogroups.com" or other address of your choice.
    8. For "Your email Address:" enter the email address associated with your account at your ISP.
    9. For "Subject Line:" you would normally let CCLogger fill in this line, but for tests PLEASE enter something like "Posting Test"
    10. As unintuitive as it sounds, click "Cancel" to save this information after once more checking that it's all spelled correctly.
  3. Now try to post a check-in list.  Please, when testing, change the "Subject Line:" to "Posting Test" so as not to flood the reflector with test lists matching real 3905CC nets.  If that doesn't work, go back to step 1.F. above and make the new email address your primary email address and try another test.
CCLogger Dialog Box

If you need additional help with CCLogger, please first read the manual, then seek that additional help from someone other than the Webmaster.  Your Webmaster is not a good source for general CCLogger information.

If you don't know some of the information required by the dialog box above, you should obtain it from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
